US Navy Centennial: Curtiss replica embarks!

 

A replica of the Curtiss Pusher biplane used by Eugene Ely has been onboard a US aircraft carrier.

November 18: No, it’s not a low-cost alternative to the F-35C Joint Strike Fighter, but a replica of the Curtiss Pusher biplane used by Eugene Ely on November 14, 1910 to begin the US Navy’s aviation chapter.

Retired Navy Commander Bob Coolbaugh posed for cameras on the flight deck of USS George H W Bush (CVN 77) – sensibly a re-enactment of the flight wasn’t attempted.
