Bicester Heritage-based vintage aviation experience provider Finest Hour Experiences has teamed up with nearby Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway to offer what is a quite possibly unique vintage flying and steam train experience.
The two organisations are offering the chance to fly a Tiger Moth over the four mile-long Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway, and to drive a steam-hauled train along the line. Tuition will be by highly experienced instructors (pilots, steam locomotive drivers and firemen) who collectively have over a century of experience in their respective fields. There are several levels of flying time and driving experiences available but each are branded ‘The Watlington Flyer’ after the train which ran until 1957 between Princes Risborough and Watlington via Chinnor.
Chris Thompson for Finest Hour Experiences said: “‘The Watlington Flyer’ was the obvious name for the project, which was triggered by banter on social media in September. The two organisations have worked together to design a range of packages to suit all pockets for railway and aviation aficionados. ‘The Watlington Flyer’ really is the perfect Christmas gift for the person who has everything!”
The ‘headline’ package will be a 45-minute flying lesson in a de Havilland Tiger Moth biplane over the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway while its weekend steam services are operating. The steam locomotive element is a half-day driving the steam train. The weekend flights will be from Chiltern Park aerodrome near Wallingford but can also be taken on some summer evenings from the historic setting of Bicester Heritage.
Gift vouchers will be available from 25th October on www.chinnorrailway.co.uk and www.finesthourexperiences.co.uk. Redemption instructions on how the lucky recipient can book their unique gift will be included with the voucher.
