Sywell Aviation Museum announces talks programme for 2019

 

Sywell Aviation Museum will host the following talks in 2019. All cost £5 per person to attend and are held at the Cirrus Room, The Aviator Hotel, Sywell :

‘Builder, tester, racer, fighter: Wing Commander Harold Blackburn MC AFC’

Wing Commander Harold Blackburn MC AFC (19 January 1879 – 29 April 1959) was a true British aviation pioneer who was twice decorated for gallantry during WWI. Mike’s talk is a very personal look at his grandfather, who survived the pioneering age of flying from 1909 to 1929 without a scratch.

‘In Praise of the Turbo Prop’ – RAF Hercules C130K operations

The Lockheed Hercules C130 is often described as the RAFs ubiquitous workhorse. Pat served 5 full tours at RAF Lyneham on the Hercules, with 36, 47 and LXX Sqns, also instructing on 242 OCU.

Using some rare slides and videos, Brian describes the rise and demise of this innovative and far sighted aircraft and engine maker.

‘MJ627 – The Life Story of a Spitfire’
by Clifford Hill
The Spitfire is a true aviation icon and this particular Mk.IX is now over 70 years old and still flying regularly. Within his story, Clifford describes both the good and the not so good times in the life of this remarkable example.
