The bumper, 132-page September issue of FlyPast features a newly restored British warbird on its cover. The Aircraft Restoration Company has been working hard to return its Westland Lysander to the air at its Duxford base, and successfully achieved this aim recently. In a ‘FlyPast’ exclusive, former editor Nigel Price goes behind the scenes at ARC and tells the story behind this superb achievement. In addition, the company’s George Romain presents stunning air-to-air photography of the Lysander in its element.
Elsewhere, Darren Harbar and Jamie Ewan present images from airshows at Old Warden and Duxford, including a seven-strong Hawker Hurricane flypast, while Frank Mormillo describes a warbird spectacular from Planes of Fame’s home in Chino, California. Malcolm V Lowe recounts the story of Soviet fighter pilot Lidiya Litvyak, nicknamed the White Rose of Stalingrad, and we also feature the story of Alexander de Seversky – from flying ace to Disney film star.
We also visit Aces High Aviation Gallery and an event to celebrate the amazing English Electric Canberra as it reaches its platinum anniversary. Meanwhile, the Dragon Rapide (pictured) features in our Spotlight section.
